Manuel Antonio National Park
This wild area is located in the pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas. It is located to 157km to the south of the city of San Jose and 7km to the south of the city of Quepos, between Ladies and Matapalo. It was established the 15 of November of 1972 with an extension of 683 hectares in the terrestrial part and 55,000 hectares in the marine part.
The region where east national park is located, was populated by the Indians Quepoa, name that origin gave to the city of Quepos. With the arrival of the colons, the earth became area of cultures that later were acquired by the United Fruit Company.
The area that at the moment constitutes the park was acquired by foreigners which they prevented the access to the villagers, at the precise moment which the rural areas with tourist aims were being developed, nevertheless, the lack of planning and the expansion put in danger many natural sanctuaries. This situation reason integration for a committee pro national park, that convinced to the municipal and national authorities for the declaration of these earth, by means of decree, in protected biological zone.
On one of the impressive landscapes but of all Costa Rica, the park counts on white sands and green foliages in the middle of great mountains.
