History of Costa Rica
Costa Rica was discovered by Cristóbal Columbus in 1502, in its fourth travel to the Américas. His carabelas anchored near the Cariari island, in the neighborhoods which today it is known like Limon, in the Caribbean coast. Impressed by the exuberance of his vegetation and the abundance of the jewelry shop and the gold adornments that the native natives dressed, Columbus baptized this earth with the name of Costa Rica.
In 1989, this country celebrated its 100 anniversary of democracy. In 1948 the army by means of the writing of a new Constitution promoted by Don Jose Figueres Ferrer was abolished. Costa Rica continues being a country without army, the Headquarters was transformed into the National Museum. The country has been name 12 times for the Nobel prize of La Paz. In 1989 then Aryan President Oscar Sanchez received this prestigious prize by efforts in the negotiations to end to him the civil wars in other Central American countries.
